United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on May 10 welcomed the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, hailing it as a constructive move to reduce tensions and restore calm in the region.
"The Secretary-General welcomes the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan as a positive step toward ending current hostilities and easing tensions," said Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson for Guterres.

He expressed hope that the agreement would pave the way for long-term peace and provide an environment conducive to resolving broader and long-standing issues between the two South Asian neighbors.
"The United Nations stands ready to support efforts aimed at promoting peace and stability in the region," Dujarric added.
The ceasefire follows days of intense diplomatic engagement, with global leaders urging restraint after weeks of escalating cross-border violence and rising casualties on both sides.
