India confirms ceasefire agreement with Pakistan
Further talks are scheduled to take place on May 12.

India on May 10 confirmed that it has agreed to a ceasefire with Pakistan following a call between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, announcing the breakthrough, reaffirmed India’s unwavering security stance. “India and Pakistan have today worked out an understanding on stoppage of firing and military action,” he said.

“India has consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will continue to do so,” he added.

India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan called the Indian DGMO at 3:35 PM (local time) on May 10.
"It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land, in the air and sea with effect from 17:00 hours," Misri said, stating that both the DGMOs will talk again on May 12 to take the process further ahead.
The development comes after 48 hours of intensive diplomatic engagement led by the U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, alongside the Secretary of State Marco Rubio, involving senior Indian and Pakistani officials.
Leaders including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif, National Security Advisors Ajit Doval and Asim Malik, and Army Chiefs from both nations were part of the talks.
“We commend Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif on their wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace,” Rubio said.

“Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter,” Trump commented, initially declaring the ceasefire.
The venue for the next round of talks is yet to be scheduled, with both sides agreeing to maintain calm in the interim.
