Americans4Hindus (A4H) recently held a conference in Detroit, Michigan, bringing together community leaders, elected officials, and political candidates to discuss issues affecting Hindu Americans and the importance of civic engagement.
The event was attended by Congressman Shri Thanedar, who addressed attendees and shared how he has consistently championed Hindu causes and advocated for Hindu American concerns in Congress.
He emphasized the importance of representation, civic participation, and strengthening the voice of the Hindu American community in public life.
Congressional candidate Anil Kumar also addressed the gathering and stated that, if elected, he would serve as a strong voice and "mouthpiece" for Hindu Americans, advocating for the interests, concerns, and aspirations of the community at the national level.
The keynote address was delivered by Romesh Japra, founder and chairman of Americans4Hindus. He remarked, "As Hindu Americans, we have achieved tremendous success in business, medicine, technology, academia, and countless other professions. However, the time has come for us to move beyond professional achievement and become active participants in civic leadership, public service, and the political process."
He continued, "Our voices, values, and contributions deserve a seat at every decision-making table, and that can only happen when we become fully engaged in the democratic process."

In a separate development, Americans4Hindus announced its endorsement of Bill Huizenga for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives from Michigan’s 4th Congressional District.
Huizenga, who currently serves as chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and chairman of the Subcommittee on South and Central Asia, was hailed by A4H in a statement. The organization described him as someone who holds positions of immense significance to Hindu Americans and the broader Indian American community.
The organization added that his leadership on matters related to international relations, democracy, security, and strategic engagement in South Asia has earned deep respect among many community stakeholders.
Japra, along with executive members, trustees, and leadership of the Michigan chapter, also met Huizenga in Holland, Michigan. The delegation discussed community concerns and priorities, while the congressman expressed strong interest in further engaging with the Hindu American community.
He also committed to joining the Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh & Jain American Congressional Caucus (HBSJ Caucus), a bipartisan congressional initiative aimed at advancing the concerns, contributions, and interests of Dharmic communities in the United States.
Additionally, Michigan Trustee Chair Dr. Ajith Kadakol and Michigan Chapter President Pramod Thanedar provided a detailed overview of the mission, organizational structure, and functioning of Americans4Hindus during the event.
The conference also witnessed the inauguration of A4H’s new civic initiative, the A4H Hindu Voter Guide, designed to "educate, inform, and empower Hindu American voters through civic awareness, policy understanding, and electoral engagement," A4H said in a statement.
The Voter Guide was demonstrated by Anand Sinha.
