Study finds Indian-Americans shift ideology across U.S. and India

The paper relies on an original survey conducted before the 2020 election with a representative sample of 1,200 Indian American U.S. residents.

Indian Americans display a significant ideological shift in political attitudes depending on whether the issue is based in the United States or India, according to a new study by Springer Nature authored by Sumitra Badrinathan, Devesh Kapur and Milan Vaishnav.

The authors claim that the Indian diaspora in the United States adopts more liberal positions on issues in the American context and holds more conservative views on analogous issues when thinking about India.
