When a young Italian volunteered to join the army of first Sikh Emperor, Maharaja Ranjit Singh, no one could visualise that this brave man from Fanale Millia in Farara district of Italy, Robino Ventura, would become a household name.

On May 31, a large number of members, workers and activists of the UK-based Sikh Foundation, Sikhi Society, and the World Sikh Martyrs (Shaheed) Society, Italy, organized a massive show to remember him.

It may be recalled that on May 31, 2019, these societies had unveiled a sketch of Maraja Ranjit Singh. Now seven years later, locals assembled again outside the ancestral home of Robino Ventura to put up a new sketch of the “Darbar of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.”

The local community hailed the Sikh ruler, recalling his time when Italians travelled all the way to Punjab to work for his kingdom. While recalling the life of Robino Ventura, most of the speakers held that as and when they go past his ancestral home, they are reminded of great times the families of those working for the Sikh empire had enjoyed.

As another sketch was unveiled during the day long celebrations, several Italians were joined by members of the Sikh community of the surrounding areas to make it a massive show. Among those who joined the special celebrations included Prithipal Singh, President  of the World Sikh Shaheed (martyr) Soldiers  Society and  its other eminent members, including Manjinder Singh Khalsa, Satnam Singh, Sewawa Singh Fauji, Jasvir Singh Dhanauta, Kamaljit Singh, Dhillon, Jatinder Singh Pappy besides members of the Sikhi Society Jagjit Singh and Sonu while the Gurdwara  Singh Sabha Novolara served langar to all participants.
