Bollywood actress Shruti Haasan has made her debut on American streaming and video-on-demand platforms with the North American release of the supernatural psychological thriller 'The Eye.'

The film was released by the digital distribution unit of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group, Freestyle Digital Media, for rent or purchase across digital HD internet, cable, and satellite platforms, as well as on DVD, beginning Jan. 20.

In 'The Eye,' Haasan plays Diana, a widow grappling with grief after the drowning of her husband, Felix. She returns to a remote Greek island where local beliefs surrounding a distorted Evil Eye curse, demanding “a soul for a soul,” begin to blur the line between myth and reality.

As Diana navigates isolation, loss, and unsettling coincidences, her interactions with a young boy named Aki and an enigmatic elder, Koraki, deepen the psychological tension. Set in 1980s Greece, the film explores themes of love, grief, superstition, and mental disorientation, using atmosphere and ambiguity to drive the narrative.

The film is directed by Daphne Schmon from a screenplay by Emily Carlton. It is produced by Melanie Dicks and executive produced by Yu-Fai Suen and Jess Hines under an all-women-led production banner.

“The psychological thriller genre always fascinates me. To be part of a story that dives deep into human emotions, grief, and the supernatural is incredibly exciting,” Haasan said. She added that the project’s women-led production and emphasis on sustainable filmmaking aligned closely with her own priorities.

Schmon described the film as an exploration of emotional dislocation, saying, “The Eye is a story of love and grief in the heady atmosphere of 1980s Greece,” and noted that the narrative focuses on the internal journey of healing rather than external blame.

The supporting cast includes Mark Rowley as Felix, Anna Savva as Fenia, Linda Marlowe as Koraki, Christos Stergioglou as Spiros, and Elpida Stathatou as Erika.
