Indian-American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi emphasized the importance of preventing further escalation between India and Pakistan following the deadly attack in Pahalgam in Kashmir and subsequent military actions.
Echoing U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio's remarks, Krishnamoorthi underscored the importance of restraint, saying, “As Secretary Rubio stated, it is essential to avoid broader conflict and further escalation.”

Krishnamoorthi stated, “In the wake of last month’s horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the need to combat terrorism and prevent future violence has become even more urgent.”
The congressman’s statement comes after India confirmed conducting pre-dawn precision airstrikes on nine locations across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, targeting infrastructure reportedly linked to terrorist groups Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed.
Dubbed Operation Sindoor, the attack was launched in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people. While India described the strikes as “non-military and pre-emptive,” Pakistan condemned them as an “act of war” and claimed it had downed several Indian jets. Tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors have since escalated, drawing international concern.
Krishnamoorthi, a senior member of the House Select Committee on Intelligence, also addressed Pakistan’s internal political situation, urging Islamabad to uphold democratic norms. “Pakistan must release former Prime Minister Imran Khan and ensure free and fair elections that uphold democratic values and give voice to the will of the Pakistani people,” he said. “The current situation should not be used as a pretext to further undermine democracy in Pakistan.”
