Biotech entrepreneur and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy officially secured the Ohio Republican Party's endorsement for the 2026 gubernatorial race.
The endorsement was confirmed during a closed-door session of the Ohio GOP Central Committee on May 9, where members voted 60-3 in favor of Ramaswamy.

“We’re laser focused on growing our Republican voter base amd delivering a decisive victory in ‘26,” Ramaswamy said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) after the vote. “This isn’t about left vs. right. It’s up vs. down. We’ll work hard to earn every last vote.”
Ramaswamy, 39, a Cincinnati native and former co-chair of Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency initiative, launched his campaign earlier this year with Trump’s endorsement, which described him as “Young, Strong, and Smart!” His campaign follows the trajectory of other Trump-backed candidates in Ohio, including U.S. Senators JD Vance and Bernie Moreno.
So far, Ramaswamy has reportedly received nearly 100 high-value endorsements in his bid for governor, including from tech billionaire Elon Musk, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, and State Treasurer Robert Sprague. U.S. Senators Rick Scott (R-FL), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), and Mike Lee (R-UT) have also endorsed his candidacy.
The endorsement provides Ramaswamy with significant institutional support, including access to party fundraising channels, staff assistance, and discounted mail rates under state law. Despite the backing, other potential Republican contenders such as Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost and Lt. Gov. Jim Tressel have not ruled out entering the race.
Ramaswamy's campaign focuses on economic revitalization and education reform. His platform includes proposals to eliminate state income and property taxes, implement merit-based pay for educators, and invest in strategic industries such as semiconductor manufacturing and nuclear energy.
On the Democratic side, former state health director Amy Acton remains the only declared candidate. The deadline for filing is Feb.4, 2026.
