Rajasthan government forms department for diaspora community

Besides addressing the issues faced by the diaspora community, the department will organise events and exchange programmes for NRRS.

The Rajasthan government, on Nov. 19, announced its decision to establish a special department for the Non-Resident Rajasthanis living in India and abroad. The move aims to bring migrant Rajasthani to the table and include them in dialogue and cooperation aimed at the state's development.

The decision was announced by the State Chief Minister, Bhajan Lal Sharma, at a press conference held at the Chief Minister's office, in Jaipur.

Named, 'National and International Pravasi Rajasthani Affairs department', the announcement comes when preparations for the maiden annual Rajasthan Pravasi Diwas are underway.

Besides addressing the issues faced by the diaspora community, the department will organise events and exchange programmes for NRRS.

The department would also lay down the policy framework to extend the benefits of the government’s schemes to NRRs and strengthen their relations with the State.

The Non-Resident Rajasthani (NRR) Policy is a forward-looking initiative for sustained engagement with the diaspora communities.

Talking about the significance of the community, the Chief Minister said in the policy document, "The Rajasthani diaspora is a rich and diverse global community, intricately connected to Rajasthan through shared culture, heritage and a sense of belonging."

Chief Minister Sharma added, "Our Pravasi community proudly upholds a strong Rajasthani identity, serving as a vital source of strength and pride. Their contributions have significantly shaped the socio-economic and cultural landscape of Rajasthan."  

"Rajasthan will contribute significantly to the country’s 100 billion U.S. dollar GCC market. Through this policy, the State government will develop cities like Jaipur, Udaipur and Jodhpur as the GCC hubs," remarked Industries Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore during a press conference.
