Indian-American media professional Priyankka Deo was appointed operational excellence manager at the Illinois Department of Central Management Services’ Office of Operational Excellence.
The office announced that Deo joined the team earlier this year and will support agencies in advancing enterprise-wide process improvement initiatives, change management efforts, and data-informed decision-making aligned with the state’s operational goals.

Deo also confirmed the appointment on X, writing, “I’ve joined the Illinois Office of Operational Excellence (CMS), focused on strengthening execution, elevating process performance and driving data-informed decision-making at scale.”
Deo brings experience across public service, higher education, media, and strategic communications.
Before joining the Office of Operational Excellence, she held multiple roles at the University of Illinois Springfield, including director of student media and faculty member, and earlier served as assistant director of media strategy in public relations.
She is also pursuing a doctorate of Public Administration at the university, with a focus on governance, policy, and organizational leadership.
Deo has also remained active in journalism and public affairs. She has worked as an independent journalist in the United States for NDTV, providing on-air analysis on U.S.–India relations, trade, and emerging technology.
Earlier, she served as chief manager at Bennett Coleman and Co. Ltd. (The Times Group) in New Delhi, where she worked on digital and public affairs initiatives, regulatory engagement, and cross-platform growth. She was previously deputy editor at TV9 Digital and was part of the launch leadership team for the News9 Plus OTT platform.
Apart from her professional profile, Deohas also written about and analyzed U.S.–India strategic cooperation, particularly in artificial intelligence, trade, and digital infrastructure.
Deo holds master’s degrees from Harvard University, the London School of Economics and Political Science, and the University of Southern California. She earned her bachelor’s degree in pre-law and sociology/anthropology from the University of Illinois Springfield.
