The Consulate General of India in New York hosted a fireside chat with Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath on April 3, focusing on India’s startup ecosystem, innovation, and economic growth.
Held on the theme “Building India’s Tomorrow,” the event brought together members of the academic, business, and Indian diaspora communities for a discussion on India’s evolving entrepreneurial and economic landscape.

In his welcome remarks, Consul General of India in New York Ambassador Binaya S. Pradhan highlighted the strength and depth of the India-US partnership across trade, technology, tourism, and talent.
He also underlined the strong people-to-people ties between the two countries and said expanding collaboration across sectors is increasingly being driven by private sector dynamism and innovation-led growth.
The fireside chat, moderated by Vishnu Raju Nandyala, chairman and chief executive officer of Exiga Group, focused on India’s rapidly evolving startup landscape, the rise of indigenous innovation, and emerging opportunities shaping the country’s next phase of economic growth.
The event was followed by a panel discussion titled “The India Playbook: India’s Growth Story,” moderated by Suchitra Kamath, entrepreneurship commissioner at the New Jersey India Commission.
The panel included Sanjay Nath, managing partner at Blume Ventures; Deedy Das, partner at Menlo Ventures; Ravi Ramamurti, director of the Center for Emerging Markets at Northeastern University; Jay Jayaraman, a former executive at Colgate-Palmolive; and Michael McCabe, resident director for North America at Tata Sons.
The discussion focused on India’s growth trajectory, highlighting its innovation-driven economy, expanding global partnerships, and emerging opportunities.
The event was held on the eve of the 21st Annual India Business Conference at Columbia Business School in New York City on April 4, which was organised under the theme “The New India Playbook.” The conference was billed as a flagship event exploring India’s growing influence in business, innovation, and sustainability.
Kamath was also listed as a keynote speaker at the conference, alongside business, policy, and media figures including K.T. Rama Rao, Raj Shamani, Ashish Gupta, Nitin Rakesh, Rohit Arora, and Ravi Ramamurti.
