Majority of detained Asian Americans lacked criminal records, study finds

Most Asian Americans detained for deportation this year had no criminal record, despite the Trump administration’s pledge to target the “worst of the worst,” a new report by UCLA called ‘ICE Detention of Asians: Increased Numbers and Hardships Under Trump’ found.

The UCLA Asian American Studies Center and UCLA Center for Neighborhood Knowledge reported that immigration authorities detained 3,705 Asian Americans from February through July 2025.
