Doin’ It, a fearless and laugh-out-loud sex-ed comedy starring and co-written by Indian-Canadian YouTuber and TV host Lilly Singh, is set to hit U.S. theaters on September 19.
The film, which premiered to a strong buzz at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival, is Singh's first leading role in a feature and is directed by Sara Zandieh.

Doin’ It centers on Maya, a 30-year-old software engineer from a conservative Indian family who moonlights as a substitute teacher. Things take an unexpected turn when she’s assigned to teach high school sex education—despite never having had sex herself. Chaos, comedy, and cultural clash ensue in this fresh, sex-positive coming-of-age story told through a South Asian lens.
Produced by Likely Story, Unicorn Island Productions, and Camelback Productions, the film features a diverse ensemble cast including Stephanie Beatriz, Ana Gasteyer, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Mary Holland, and Trevor Salter.
“Doin’ It is exactly the kind of fresh, authentic comedy that defines our slate. It’s wildly funny, sex-positive, and refreshingly honest. Lilly Singh shines as both filmmaker and performer, cementing herself as one of the most exciting voices in film comedy today,” said Marc Goldberg, CEO of AURA ENTERTAINMENT, the film’s distributors.
Singh, who developed the project through her banner Unicorn Island Productions, said “I’ve always wanted to tell stories that break boundaries and bring joy. Doin’ It does both. We laughed our a**es off making it, and I can’t wait for audiences to see a comedy that puts brown girls, awkward moments, and cultural taboos front and center.”
Doin’ It joins AURA’s growing 2025 slate, which includes Trap House starring Dave Bautista and the buddy comedy Code 3 with Rainn Wilson and Lil Rel Howery.
