LA protests: How the Indian American community is reacting

New India Abroad spoke to the Indian American community in Los Angeles about the ongoing protests. Here’s what they had to say.

As protests against immigration enforcement continue to sweep through Los Angeles for a fourth day, the Indian American community is reacting with a mix of concern, caution, and increasing calls for nuanced engagement. 

The ICE raids, which have reportedly led to over 100 arrests in the last few days and the deployment of National Guard troops, have brought the issue of immigration front and center, even for communities not directly targeted in the immediate operations.

Broader Anxieties

The recent reports, some confirmed by authorities and others deemed misinformation, of ICE agents targeting public spaces such as Home Depot and 7-Eleven stores, where day laborers are known to work, has sent shivers even through documented Indian American communities.
