The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has unanimously approved a motion to officially recognize Diwali, the Festival of Lights, for the fourth consecutive year.
The motion was introduced by Supervisor Janice Hahn, who first introduced the motion in 2022, marking the county’s inaugural recognition of the holiday.
“Diwali is meaningful for thousands of families across Los Angeles County, and it’s important for the government to recognize that,” Hahn said in a statement.

“I’m proud to have led this effort for our Hindu, Sikh, Jain, and Buddhist communities. More than ever, we can find hope in Diwali’s message—that light will triumph over darkness and good will triumph over evil,” she added.
Hahn’s district includes Artesia, home to “Little India,” a hub of Indian-owned shops, restaurants, and community organizations. She also represents the Radha Krishna Temple in Norwalk, one of the oldest Hindu temples west of the Mississippi River.
In Cerritos, Hahn sponsors the annual SoCal Diwali Festival organized by the Radha Krishna Temple. She will again join thousands of attendees at this year’s celebration on Oct. 11.
