Republican New York State attorney general candidate Republican Saritha Komatireddy called for a freeze on the Attorney General's budget funding, accusing incumbant AG Letitia James of overspending and underdelivering, on May 1.
Hitting out at her rival in the upcoming elections, Komitareddy claimed that the AG’s office does not need a raise but needs a change in leadership.
In a video post on X, she claimed that the AG’s office needs “someone who's going to take the resources of that office and focus it on actually protecting New Yorkers.

Outlining the touchstones of her campaign, she continued, “On reducing crime, homelessness, and fraud. That's what I'll do when I'm Attorney General.”
The revitalized attack comes days after Komatireddy issued a statement questioning the ‘Return on Investment’ on the increased spending by James’ office.
In the statement, she asked, “The Attorney General’s Office keeps getting a raise even though it is failing New Yorkers. James has presided over a 26 percent increase in crime, a 63 percent increase in drug deaths, and a 38 percent increase in homelessness.”
Promising better administration, she continued, “The Attorney General’s Office does not need a raise, it needs new leadership. When I’m Attorney General, I’ll do more with less.”
The Republican noted that the budget of the office “has increased $149M since 2019, even though crime, homelessness, and fraud are up.”
She vowed a tougher stance claiming that the AG’s office is “not a political action committee with a law license”.
She claimed that she will ensure the office’s resources will be used only to protect the people of New York, if she is elected.
Komatireddy elaborated, “That means going after repeat offenders, housing the homeless, and stopping the scams. Not chasing political headlines.”
She added, “New Yorkers are tired of paying more and getting less. That ends in November.”
Komatireddy is deputy chief of appeals at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York. An Indian American attorney and former federal prosecutor, she is the Republican nominee challenging incumbent Letitia James for New York attorney general in 2026.
She has repeatedly decried James’ policies on crime and homelessness while accusing James of wasteful spending.
