Indian American Democrat running for New York state comptroller’s office, Raj Goyle, received backing for his electoral push from Congressman Ro Khanna, who described Goyle as someone who gets the need for a new economic vision to make New York work for everyone.
Goyle, the co-founder of Indian American Impact, an organization focused on increasing political representation within the community, will be going against incumbent Comptroller Tom DiNapoli in the upcoming June Democratic primary.

Highlighting why he believes Goyle should be in office, Khanna said, “We could transform this country, finally giving people education, housing, child care, and a good education.”
Khanna continued, “We need people across this country. We need people in Congress, we need people in city councils, we need people in state governments, we need comptrollers. And that's why I'm so proud to endorse and support Raj Goyle, who's running for comptroller here in New York.”
Khanna noted that this “transformation of the country” is targeted by the new tax on billionaires, backed by him and U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.
Introduced on March 2, 2026, the “Make Billionaires Pay Their Fair Share Act” proposes a 5 percent annual wealth tax on Americans with a net worth over $1 billion. The bill targets roughly 938 people and is projected to raise trillions over 10 years to fund child care, health care, and education.
Khanna noted that this would “fund Medicare for all, teachers at $60,000, and child care at $10 a day. It would provide a $3,000 check for folks making under $150,000.”
Responding to the endorsement, Goyle called Khanna a “lifelong friend” and noted that he was “so honored to have your (Khanna’s) support.”
Echoing Khanna’s push for economic transformation, Goyle added, “the comptroller spends half a billion dollars on Palantir. Almost half a billion dollars in foreign bonds, including Israel bonds.”
Goyle added, “We shouldn't be investing in war. We should be investing right here in New York to invest in housing and child care and all the things that you talked about.”
I'm honored to have the endorsement of my good friend and progressive champion @RoKhanna.

Ro is pushing Democrats to be bolder. That means taxing the rich, and investing in housing and healthcare.

An attorney who has represented immigrants, Goyle has defended those targeted by enforcement actions and highlighted his support for the “End Indian Hate” initiative.
He previously served in the Kansas House of Representatives from 2007 to 2011, where he was one of the youngest members elected.
