Kentucky House passes resolution honoring Hindu Americans
Measure highlights cultural, civic, and charitable contributions of Hindus in Kentucky.

The Kentucky House of Representatives passed a resolution recognizing the contributions of the Hindu community and acknowledging the role of Hindu Americans in the state’s civic, cultural, and economic life.
House Resolution 95, adopted by voice vote on March 4, honors the accomplishments of the Hindu community in Kentucky and highlights contributions in areas including business, education, culture, and public service.

According to the resolution, Hindu traditions and culture have had “a profound impact on this state through shared customs, faith, hospitality, and sense of community.” Lawmakers noted that people across Kentucky gather to celebrate Hindu festivals, including Diwali events at the State Capitol and Holi celebrations in Louisville.
The document also references the growing presence of Hindu temples across the state, including in Lexington, Louisville, Bowling Green, Owensboro, and Richmond. Appreciating the community service initiatives undertaken by Hindu organizations it highlighted that the Hindu Temple of Kentucky serves nearly 1,500 Hindu families of Bhutanese, Nepalese, and Indian descent and hosts fundraising events supporting health initiatives, statewide services, and other charitable efforts.
Lawmakers acknowledged members of the Hindu community in Louisville, who helped repaint the Swaminarayan Temple and raised about $3,500 for the Coalition for the Homeless in Louisville.
The resolution also notes that Hindu institutions in the state provide religion classes, youth programs, and community activities aimed at building character and encouraging young people to become positive contributors to society.
Reacting to the development, the Hindu American Foundation said, “From business and education to culture and service, Hindu Americans continue to enrich communities and strengthen the fabric of American society.”

The resolution was introduced by Representative Nima Kulkarni, a Democratic lawmaker from Louisville and the first Indian American elected to the Kentucky House, who has represented the state’s 40th District since 2019.
