The Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar will see expanded international flight operations this winter, with four Asian carriers increasing connectivity to Southeast Asia and onward destinations in Australia and New Zealand.

According to the FlyAmritsar Initiative, Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia X, Scoot, and Thai Lion Air will together operate 40 weekly two-way flights during the winter schedule from Nov. 1, to March 31, 2026.

The combined operations will provide nearly 9,300 seats each week between Amritsar and their primary hubs in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and Bangkok.

Malaysia Airlines will continue operating 14 weekly flights between Kuala Lumpur and Amritsar. The airline has expanded its network with a new Kuala Lumpur–Brisbane route starting Nov. 29 and added frequencies to Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, and Auckland.

Through its partnership with Qantas, it offers onward connectivity to major Australian cities and links Amritsar passengers to Southeast Asian destinations including Phuket, Bali, Krabi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Manila.

AirAsia X has raised its Kuala Lumpur–Amritsar frequency from six to eight weekly flights. The airline’s regional and long-haul network from Kuala Lumpur connects travellers to Southeast Asia and to Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, and Darwin.

Singapore-based Scoot, the low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, will continue operating ten weekly flights using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. Through Singapore Airlines’ network, passengers can access connecting flights to Australia, New Zealand, and North America, including Brisbane, Adelaide, Cairns, Darwin, Auckland, Vancouver, and Calgary.

Thai Lion Air is increasing its Amritsar–Bangkok (Don Mueang) service from six to eight weekly flights, offering a four-hour direct connection to Thailand and onward access to destinations such as Krabi, Phuket, Bali, Chiang Mai, Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Hong Kong.

Sameep Singh Gumtala, Global Convener of the FlyAmritsar Initiative, welcomed the news, “For the upcoming winters, this is very good news for the Punjabi diaspora and those travelling abroad.”

He said about 9,000 to 9,500 seats will be available weekly from Amritsar, noting that the enhanced network will allow passengers to reach destinations across Southeast Asia and Oceania without routing through Delhi.

Gumtala reiterated that the growing number of flights from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and Bangkok reflects Amritsar’s increasing importance as an international travel hub for Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Haryana.

He urged passengers to use Amritsar as their gateway for international travel, adding, “If more people start flying from Amritsar, we can present a stronger case to airlines for adding more routes in the future.”

He also appealed to the Punjab government and airport authorities to improve passenger facilities and introduce dedicated public transport services linking the airport with major cities across the state.

The FlyAmritsar Initiative said the increase in flight frequency and seat capacity marks one of the strongest phases of connectivity from Amritsar in recent years and could help attract more tourism and business travel to the region if sustained.
