A 29-year-old Indian Reddit user's post has gone viral as he shared how his career went for a spin because he prioritized loyalty to the company over his own interests, after getting fired from his US based company.

In a post titled 'Laid off within a month of returning to the US', the Redditor gave details of his career progression over the years. He had been working in  a US based company since completing his Master's in 2021, however, since the lottery system for getting a work Visa was taking too long, his company decided to move him to Canada. But the Visa Gods had other plans and he failed to get a Canada Visa either on time.

The company and the Redditor, now all out of options, decided that he should move back to India till his Visa processes were completed. In the post, he noted, "they transferred to me (me to) India initially for 3 months and then moved to Canada once the visa came."

Things started to turn around for him and his visa eventually came through in 2025. He shared, "My work visa was finally picked in this year’s lottery and they filed it over the summer."

Things however took a sorry turn, he noted, "Now here’s when I started realizing my team is doing bad and we aren’t working on billable hours. I upgraded to Premium processing out of pocket and moved back to US September end."

Posting barely a month after reaching the USA, he continued, "We were still pretty much not doing any billable work and I was laid off with another colleague today morning."

The user remarked that getting fired was something he expected but he never expected to be the first one out of the door since he was a fairly senior employee.

After narrating his ordeal, he shared his learning with the Reddit community, he said, "My biggest regret is not starting to apply for jobs earlier. I was worried it’d look bad to switch right after coming back to the US."

Highlighting the sense of loyalty he felt towards the company and contrasting it with the quick-firing policy of the company, he concluded, "Lesson learned: no company is worth blind loyalty, always look out for yourself."

The Internet, as always, was split on the issue, while some users optimistically pointed out that he still has tons of options since he is already in the USA, others urged him to come back to India and work for his motherland.
