Indian-origin UCF professor develops innovative way to administer drugs

The patent-pending technology could deliver drugs directly to damaged heart tissue and cancer cells while reducing harmful side effects from traditional treatments.

An Indian-origin professor at the University of Central Florida has developed a patent-pending technology that could transform how treatments are administered for heart disease and cancer by using microscopic biological particles he calls “smart tiny bubbles.”

According to the University, Dinender Singla, professor and head of the Division of Metabolic and Cardiovascular Sciences at UCF’s College of Medicine, has created a system that converts exosomes, naturally occurring vesicles secreted by cells, into targeted drug delivery vehicles capable of carrying therapeutics directly to specific areas of the body.
