The owner of an Indian grocery store in Virginia has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of defrauding the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as the food stamp program, in a scheme that allegedly involved exchanging benefits for cash and fabricating food purchases.

The indictment, returned in Charlottesville, accuses Rajan Babbar, 59, the Lynchburg-based owner of Taste of India of one count of SNAP fraud, three counts of wire fraud, and four counts of transacting in criminally derived property.
