Anil Beephan is the first Republican of Indian American descent elected to the New York State Assembly. His parents immigrated to the U.S. from Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean, and his ancestors are from south India.
“I grew up in upstate New York and I have lived my entire life over here. I think that we are all a product of the environment that we grew up in,” says Beephan who worked as a private pilot, a lieutenant and volunteer firefighter in his hometown before he opted for public life and politics.
