India welcomed the United States’ decision to designate The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT), as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT).
“The designation of TRF is a timely and important step reflecting the deep cooperation between India and the United States on counter-terrorism,” India’s Ministry of External Affairs said in its statement.

“India has consistently emphasized the need for global cooperation in the fight against terrorism and the dismantling of terror infrastructure,” it added.
Acknowledging U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s role in facilitating the designation, Minister of External Affairs, S Jaishankar wrote on X, saying, “A strong affirmation of India-US counter-terrorism cooperation. Appreciate Marco Rubio and the US State Department for designating TRF—a Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT) proxy—as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT).”

“India remains committed to a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism and will continue to work closely with its international partners to ensure that terrorist organizations and their proxies are held accountable,” the MEA added.
Since its inception in 2019, TRF has claimed responsibility for several attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, including the April 22 massacre in Pahalgam, where 26 civilians were killed.
The U.S. State Department on July 17 acknowledged that TRF functions as a front for Lashkar-e-Tayyiba and that the official designation is intended to disrupt its access to funding, weapons, and logistical support.
"These actions taken by the Department of State demonstrates the Trump Administration's commitment to protecting our national security interests, countering terrorism, and enforcing President Trump's call for justice for the Pahalgam attack," the Department said in a statement. The move imposes financial sanctions and legal consequences on individuals and entities linked to the group.
