At a time when illicit arms flows are fueling wars, terrorism, and organized crime across continents, India called for stronger global coordination and consistent implementation of United Nations resolutions to curb the spread of small arms and light weapons.
Speaking at the UN Security Council’s open debate on small arms on Nov. 10, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, said the illicit trade “remains a major threat to international peace and security,” and called for an integrated global response rooted in national responsibility and international cooperation.
