The Indian Ministry of Culture and Tourism has released details of 10 signature events that will mark the 2025 edition of the International Day of Yoga (IDY), aiming to highlight the decade-long journey of the global celebration. These events are designed to broaden the reach of Yoga by engaging specific communities and sectors across India and the world.
The main event, Yoga Sangam, saw a synchronized mass Yoga demonstration based on the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) at over one lakh locations in India on June 21, 2025, from 6:30 AM to 7:45 AM. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the national session in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

CYP is a standardized sequence created by the Ministry of AYUSH in consultation with Yoga experts, and is available in 22 Indian languages, six UN languages, and nine other foreign languages.
Another key initiative, Yoga Bandhan, is an international exchange program that will involve the mutual exchange of Yoga practitioners and delegates between India and partner countries. Indian Missions abroad will coordinate Yoga sessions in schools and institutions, while foreign delegates in India will participate in immersive Yoga programs culminating on June 21.
The Yoga Park initiative focuses on turning public parks into wellness zones in both rural panchayats and urban municipalities. These will feature trained instructors, instructional signage, and inclusive access for children, senior citizens, and individuals with health issues.
Yoga Samavesh is designed to create targeted Yoga interventions for special groups. Protocols have been developed for conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and mental health issues, as well as for children, adolescents, senior citizens, pregnant women, and individuals recovering from substance abuse.
The Ministry has also assessed the broader public health impact of IDY through a project called Yoga Prabhava. “A decade of IDY observation, unbroken even during the COVID-19 pandemic, stands as a testament to India's leadership in deploying Yoga to achieve public health outcomes,” the press release noted.
These findings were presented at Yoga Connect, a global Yoga summit held on June 14, which brought together leading Yoga figures. The summit aimed to foster partnerships and elevate Yoga’s relevance in daily life.
The Harit Yoga campaign, launched on Apr. 7, links Yoga with environmental responsibility through activities like tree planting and climate awareness drives.
To engage young people, the Yoga Unplugged initiative will use both digital platforms and in-person events such as quizzes, festivals, and “Yoga Fusion” performances combining traditional Yoga with modern music and movement.
Yoga Maha Kumbh, a city-based celebration of Yoga in a festival format, began on June 15 and will conclude on June 21. Each day will focus on a theme, including Environment, Youth, and Inclusiveness.
Finally, SamYoga aims to integrate Yoga with other medical systems such as Ayurveda, Siddha, and Homeopathy. The program includes cross-disciplinary discussions and experience-sharing sessions, with the goal of informing public health policy.
The Ministry stated that these efforts collectively “amplify the narrative of Yoga” and are intended to make the practice more accessible, inclusive, and globally relevant.
