IIT Delhi alumnus Bharath Hariharan joins Michigan faculty
At Cornell University, he worked on computer vision and machine learning, in particular on important problems that defy the "Big Data" label.

Indian-origin academic Bharath Hariharan will be joining the Computer Science and Engineering Division at the University of Michigan as an associate professor in fall 2027.
He was previously an associate professor in computer science at Cornell University.

Hariharan, who did his B.Tech. from IIT Delhi, said after several wonderful years at Cornell, he will be moving to Michigan next year, partly driven by family reasons.

“Excited for new adventures in U Michigan and Ann Arbor!” he said.

He enjoys problems that require marrying advances in machine learning with insights from computer vision, geometry and domain-specific knowledge. His work has been recognized with an NSF CAREER award and a PAMI Young Researcher Award.
He earned a Ph.D. in 2015 from the University of California, Berkeley.
He won several awards, including PAMI Young Researcher Award, 2022; NSF CAREER; Excellence in Teaching Award, 2019-20; Microsoft Research Fellowship, 2013; Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor Award, 2011; Berkeley Graduate Student Fellowship, 2010; and President's Gold Medal, IIT Delhi, 2010, for his outstanding achievements.
