The India Association of Greater Boston (IAGB) hosted its annual 5K Run Walk for Education & Vision on May 30 at Depot Park along the Minuteman Community Bikeway in Bedford, Massachusetts, bringing together community members to support educational and vision-related initiatives.
The event supported two organizations: Ekal Vidyalaya, which works to expand educational opportunities in rural and tribal areas of India, and Vision Aid, which provides training, technology and rehabilitation services for individuals with visual impairments.
Families, youth, seniors and community supporters participated in the event, which featured a 5-kilometer route through the Bedford area. Participants received event T-shirts and took part in the run-walk alongside volunteers and community partners who helped organize and manage the program.
Nilesh Agrawal, president of IAGB, said the annual event reflects the organization's mission of bringing people together in support of community causes.
“IAGB’s 5K Run Walk continues to reflect the heart of the organization’s mission, bringing the community together for causes that matter,” Agrawal said.
He thanked participants, volunteers and supporters for their involvement and said that supporting Ekal Vidyalaya and Vision Aid allows the organization to extend its impact beyond the Greater Boston area.
Vijayendra Bhargava, an IAGB director and lead organizer of the event, said community participation contributed to the success of the program.
“It was inspiring to see the community come together with such enthusiasm,” Bhargava said.
He also expressed appreciation for the volunteers and participants whose support helped make the event possible.
Manisha Jain, executive director of Ekal Vidyalaya, praised the organization of the walkathon and said it demonstrated IAGB’s ability to bring community members together around a common purpose.
Lalit Sudan, volunteer president of Vision Aid, commended the IAGB team for its efforts and highlighted the dedication of volunteers and organizers involved in the event.
Revathy Ramakrishna, co-founder and volunteer vice president of Vision Aid, thanked IAGB’s leadership and volunteers and credited the collaborative effort behind the event’s execution.
The event drew participation from families, young people and representatives of partner organizations. Organizers said the turnout reflected IAGB’s ongoing focus on community engagement, health and wellness, and service-oriented programming.
