Holi a reminder of Australia’s diversity, says PM Albanese

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has extended wishes to Australians celebrating Holi, highlighting the festival’s growing significance in the country’s multicultural landscape.
In a message marking the festival of colours, Albanese acknowledged Holi as an important occasion for Australians of Hindu and South Asian heritage to celebrate shared history, traditions, and community.

He took to X and described Holi as a festival centered on timeless themes such as the triumph of good over evil, friendship, forgiveness, and the unity of the human spirit.
Albanese noted how Holi has been embraced across modern Australia, with its vibrant expression of colour, love, and renewal enjoyed by people from diverse backgrounds. He said the festival now stands as a highlight of Australia’s cultural calendar.
Albanese emphasized that celebrations like Holi reflect the broader Australian story, one enriched by the beliefs, customs, and contributions of people from around the world. He said Australians come together not only to honour their differences but also to celebrate a shared national identity.
“Festivals like Holi remind us that all Australians benefit from the beliefs, customs, and experiences of people from every corner of the earth, along with their aspiration, hard work and love of country,” he wrote.
