Gita Gopinath to host India’s Finance Minister at Harvard
The April 10 discussion will focus on India’s economic strategy in an increasingly multipolar world.

Former International Monetary Fund First Deputy Managing Director Gita Gopinath will moderate a conversation with India’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at Harvard Kennedy School on April 10.
The discussion, titled India’s Economic Strategy in a Multipolar World, will be held at 4 p.m. ET at the John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Sitharaman will headline the event, which Harvard frames around India’s position as one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies in recent years and the challenges of sustaining economic transformation amid shifting global alignments.

According to Harvard, the conversation will examine how India is pursuing economic transformation “in a world that is increasingly multipolar and where the rules of engagement are in flux,” while also addressing “other pressing issues facing India and the world.”
The event is part of the Harvard Institute of Politics’ John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum series, which regularly hosts global political leaders, policymakers, and public figures.
It will be conducted in a hybrid format, with in-person attendance limited to those registering with a valid Harvard email address. Harvard said the discussion will also be publicly livestreamed on Harvard Kennedy School’s YouTube channel.
Gopinath currently serves as the Gregory and Ania Coffey Professor of Economics at Harvard. She returned to the university after serving as the IMF’s First Deputy Managing Director from 2022 to 2025, following her earlier tenure as the Fund’s Chief Economist from 2019 to 2022.
