Five Indian-origin writers named in UK’s Jhalak Prize longlists

Books by Tara Singh, Mona Arshi, Gurnaik Johal, Ash Sarkar, and Manjeet Mann have been named in the 2026 longlists of the Jhalak Prize awards.

First awarded in March 2017, the Jhalak Prize aims to recognize and celebrate books by writers of color in the U.K. and Ireland. The categories of the annual awards include the Prose Prize, Poetry Prize, and the Children’s & Young Adult Prize.
