Eric Trump said on Nov. 17 that New York City’s incoming mayor, Zohran Mamdani, “hates the Indian population,” escalating his criticism of the mayor-elect during an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity.

Trump argued that major US cities are being reshaped by what he called a far-left shift that, in his view, is hurting large corporations and weakening once-thriving urban centers. He told Hannity that New York was once the “greatest city in the world” but no longer holds that distinction “because of politics.”

He turned his focus to Mamdani, describing the Democratic socialist’s agenda as misaligned with the city’s needs. Trump said New York now has “a socialist… communist… who wants to nationalise grocery stores and wants to arrest Netanyahu.” He accused the mayor-elect of holding hostile views toward several communities, saying Mamdani “hates the Jewish people, hates the Indian population.”

Mamdani, winning a mandate on Nov. 4 focused on making New York more affordable, has made history in many ways—as the first Muslim and first South Asian to lead America's largest city and, at 34, its youngest mayor in a century.

Trump, an executive vice president at the Trump Organization, said the incoming administration should prioritize “safe streets, clean streets, reasonable taxes,” and argued the city could improve “without government intervention.”

He also linked Mamdani to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and repeated his long-standing criticism of her opposition to Amazon’s proposed headquarters in New York. “They were going to bring tens and tens of thousands of high-paying jobs to New York City and she ran them out like absolute dogs, right?” he said.

Earlier this month, speaking at a Turning Point USA event, Trump warned that a city governed by Mamdani would face serious consequences. He described Mamdani’s ideas as “crazy” and urged conservatives to resist them. “This is going to destroy a great American city, and we cannot allow this to spread across this country,” he told attendees. He added, “There is a literal Communist elected as New York City mayor.”
