Shivam, a non-profit Dhol-Tasha Pathak group of Plano, Texas, known to have performed during events such as Howdy-Modi in 2019 at NRGArena and during the Presidential Inaugural Oath Ceremony parade at the White House, celebrated their eleventh anniversary on Nov. 16 at Event Center Frisco, marking it as their Annual Day and Appreciation Ceremony 2025.

Shivam co-founders Harish Nehate and Nikhil Potbhare opened the evening with a diya lighting ceremony and expressed gratitude towards the Consulate General of India, Houston, D.C. Manjunath, for gracing the occasion along with state representatives, many city mayors, pro-tems, major community leaders, city council members, and law enforcement officers.

Celebrating community spirit through music and showing passion for Dhol-Tasha, co-founder Harish told New India Abroad that the Shivam team has grown in the last eleven years with the support of volunteers and all the delegates present on the occasion.

Nikhil emphasized that the need and demand for this fun-loving instrument made them both start the group. “When we started, we were a small group and were playing at all festivals and events.

The incredible opportunity unfolded when they initially showcased their talents at the corporate event held at American Airlines Headquarters in Arlington. The following year, they had the opportunity to perform beyond Texas, taking the stage in Michigan. The true highlight came when they took the stage at Howdy Modi.

"The exhilarating experience unfolded as 60,000 fans erupted in cheers within the stadium. We felt what NFL players feel on the fields,” said Nikhil. The team has continued to perform at the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup 2024, NBA Dallas Mavericks 2024, Ajay-Atul 2024 Concert Opening Ceremony, NHL Dallas Stars Ice Hockey 2023, and Fusion performances 2022—Mridangam, Japanese Taiko, and African Djembe, just to name a few—in addition to performing at various local community festivals and events.

Harish while addressing the delegates during “friendsgiving event” said their membership comes with “sweat, time and dedication”.

Calling himself a family member of Shivam, Consulate General D.C. Manjunath said, “I feel so blessed to be part of this event with so many important leaders and members of the community. It is very inspiring to see how Shivam Dhol-Tasha has brought traditional art forms to so many important platforms across the US, constraining me not to tap my feet.”

Along with Consulate General and Texas State Representatives Matt Shaheen and Jared Patterson, there were council members from the cities of Plano, Frisco, and Irving. The event also hosted mayors and mayor pro-tems from Arlington, Frisco, Little Elm, and Richardson; the Plano Police Department; representatives from DFW Hindu Temple Ekta Mandir, DFW Gujarati Samaj, ISCKON, Mystic Mandala, Radha Krishna Temple, UT Dallas, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, HSS, Fortune Makers, Radio Karishma, Raghunath Temple, Ram Mandir Plano, SEWA USA, Soul Foods India, From Roofing, and SuRatna Foundation; and presidents of the Asian Chamber of Texas, DFW Maharashtra Mandal, India Association of North Texas (IANT), India Bazaar, and IndUS Synergy Partners.

The team of Shivam received heartfelt congratulations from everyone during their speeches, highlighting how this event successfully united many individuals, creating a rare opportunity for city councils to connect with fellow council members. There was a strong desire and enthusiasm for Shivam Dhol-Tasha to take the stage at every significant event moving forward.
