Dharmendra was included in the official ‘In Memoriam’ list published by the Academy during the 98th Academy Awards, recognizing film industry figures who died over the past year.
The ceremony took place in Los Angeles on March 15. Dharmendra, a legendary Indian actor, died Nov. 24, 2025.
While the Academy acknowledged him on the extended memorial list posted on the Oscars’ official website, he was not included in the televised ‘In Memoriam’ segment broadcast during the ceremony.

The on-air tribute featured several major Hollywood figures, including Robert Redford, Rob Reiner, Robert Duvall, Catherine O’Hara and Diane Keaton.
Ahead of the ceremony, organizers said they planned a different approach to the memorial segment. Instead of the traditional video montage, the tribute was divided into multiple parts with individual segments honoring selected industry figures.
Director Rob Reiner was honored by actor Billy Crystal, who starred in Reiner’s film ‘When Harry Met Sally.’
Robert Redford was honored by Barbra Streisand, his co-star in ‘The Way We Were.’ She described him as a “brilliant, subtle actor” and an “intellectual cowboy.” Streisand concluded by singing a few lines from the film’s title song.
Actor Rachel McAdams also paid tribute during the segment, honoring fellow Canadian actor Diane Keaton.

The Academy said only a limited number of names were included in the broadcast tribute. A more comprehensive ‘In Memoriam’ list was later published online.
That extended list included several figures from Indian cinema, including Dharmendra, Manoj Kumar, B Saroja Devi and Kota Srinivasa Rao, whose photographs appeared alongside film veterans from around the world.
