Governor Gretchen Whitmer has appointed Indian-origin neurologist Debasish Mridha to the Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) board of control, succeeding Joann Crary. His term runs through July 21, 2033.
Mridha, a longtime Saginaw resident, is the owner of Michigan Advanced Neurology Center, a neurologist at MyMichigan Health, and a clinical associate professor at Central Michigan University. Board certified in neurology and sleep medicine, he has been licensed to practice in Michigan since 1995, with hospital privileges at Covenant HealthCare and Ascension St. Mary’s.

Beyond his medical career, Mridha founded the Mridha Foundation, supporting community and humanitarian initiatives. He has served on the boards of the Michigan State medical society foundation, SVSU foundation, and Saginaw County medical society, and is an active member of the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Neurology.
An accomplished writer, Mridha has published five books of poetry and philosophy, including Sweet Rhymes for Sweet Hearts, Verses of Happiness, and Verses of Peace, as well as two works in Bengali. His inspirational style focuses on themes of peace, kindness, and personal growth.
Originally from India, Mridha earned his medical degree from Kiev Medical Institute in Ukraine and completed his neurology residency and fellowship in neurophysiology at Wayne State University. He also has over five years of research experience in clinical neurology. Mridha lives in Saginaw with his wife, Chinu, and daughter, Amita.
