Deakin University promoted Australia–India education, research, and innovation by serving as the knowledge partner at the 2025 India Immersion Week. The four-day event held from Sept. 9 was organized by the India Australia Business & Community Alliance (IABCA) and supported by the Centre for Australia–India Relations (DFAT). It featured high-level forums, roundtables, and cultural programs in New Delhi and Mumbai.

The university led the Education and Skills roundtable hosted at the Australian High Commission in New Delhi. Deakin’s president and vice-chancellor, professor Iain Martin, delivered a keynote on the impact of AI and automation.

"As a global leader in online and hybrid education, we use innovative technology to deliver flexible student-focused programs that keep us ahead of the learning curve. India is one of the world's fastest-growing economies. Together, we're driving progress through education and skill development to tackle tomorrow's challenges," Professor Martin said.

Culture and sport also played a prominent role as bridges for diplomacy and collaboration. The Business of Culture Roundtable at Humayun’s Tomb and the Pradhan Mantri Sangrahalaya highlighted heritage, fashion, and philanthropy. Meanwhile, cricket became a symbol of friendship with a fireside chat featuring legendary Steve Waugh, hosted by Deakin’s Ravneet Pawha.

Commenting on the significance of the event, Pawha said, “Deakin is proud to be a knowledge partner for the IABCA India Immersion Week 2025. This platform allows us to bring together government, business, academia, and culture to co-create pathways for future-ready talent, inclusive innovation, and stronger people-to-people ties."

The week wrapped up in Mumbai with the IABCA Global Leaders Forum and the Award Ceremony & Gala Dinner at Jio World Centre. Deakin’s president and vice chancellor participated in a panel discussion and shared insights on Tech in a multipolar world: Trust, scale, and the Australia–India digital advantage.

Established in 2013, the India Australia Business & Community Alliance (IABCA) fosters bilateral engagement between the two countries, while Deakin University has been a higher-education partner to India for over 30 years and a longstanding partner to IABCA.
