DC attack ‘heinous and cowardly,’ says Jasdip Singh Jesse
Sikhs of America denounced the Nov. 26 shooting that critically wounded two National Guard members.

Sikhs of America chairman Jasdip Singh Jesse said the shooting of two West Virginia National Guard members near the White House was “a heinous and cowardly act of violence” and an assault on public safety. His statement came after both soldiers were left in critical condition in what authorities described as an ambush on Nov. 26.
In the statement, Jesse said the attack targeted “those who serve and protect our nation.” He called violence against uniformed personnel unacceptable and said it “must be met with the strongest moral and legal response.” He urged that those responsible be brought to swift justice.

Jesse added that the organization offered prayers for the wounded guardsmen and their families. He said he hoped they would find strength during what he called a difficult period. Sikhs of America, he noted, stands with the National Guard and law enforcement.
Authorities said the suspect, an Afghan immigrant who entered the United States in 2021 under a resettlement program, was taken into custody shortly after the shooting. Federal officials said both victims remained in critical condition.
In the hours after the attack, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced the immediate and indefinite suspension of all immigration requests involving Afghan nationals.
