The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at The City University of New York (CUNY) has appointed Indian-American executive Vivek Shah as the new chair of its foundation board of directors.
In his new role, Shah will strengthen industry partnerships, and support efforts to make journalism education tuition-free by 2027, the University said.

Shah currently serves as chief executive officer of Ziff Davis, a New York-based digital media and internet company. With a career spanning leadership roles at Time Inc, the Fortune/Money Group—he brings decades of experience in digital innovation and strategic growth in media.
Additionally, Shah serves on the board of directors of StreetSquash, and LiveOnNY, and is a member of the Tufts University board of trustees, where he graduated from with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science.
Alongside Shah, four new members have joined the foundation board: Robin Sparkman, Sarah Alvarez, Marjorie D. Parker, and Richard Stengel. “Their combined expertise in media, technology, public service, and innovative journalism perfectly aligns with our mission to ensure that all students, regardless of background or income, can access exceptional journalism education,” said Dean Graciela Mochkofsky.
He succeeds Arthur Sulzberger Jr., former chairman of The New York Times Company, who now continues as chair emeritus.
