Chennai summit promotes India as medical tourism hub

With over 1,600 Ayush visas issued to patients from more than 75 countries, India is fast emerging as a trusted destination for holistic and preventive care.

India's endeavors to establish itself as a global leader in integrative, patient-centric healthcare were significantly advanced at the South Regional Summit on AYUSH—Ayurveda, Siddha, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Sowa Rigpa, and Homoeopathy— Medical Value Travel. 

The summit, which was held in Chennai on May 26, was designed to advocate for wellness tourism by emphasizing the potential of India's traditional systems of medicine as evidence-based and globally relevant healthcare solutions, under the theme “Ayush Medical Value Travel – Promoting Wellness, Strengthening Global Ties.”

Southern India, with its rich legacy of traditional healing systems and growing wellness infrastructure, was showcased as a model region for promoting AYUSH-based MVT.

Prataprao Jadhav, Union Minister of State (IC), Ministry of AYUSH, inaugurated the event and called on states to develop culturally rooted wellness models aligned with international standards. He emphasized the importance of leveraging India’s traditional medical wisdom to support global health and economic growth. 

Over 325 delegates participated, including representatives from Ayush colleges, health tech startups, wellness resorts, and medical tourism facilitators. The summit featured sessions on national and state government strategies, industry insights, and collaborative efforts to enhance quality, clinical standards, and digital integration.

Key industry leaders, including Apollo AyurVAID Hospitals, Kairali Ayurvedic Group, and Arya Vaidya Pharmacy, shared their perspectives on positioning India as a premier wellness destination.
