Indian-American chef Vikas Khanna is receiving widespread praise after a video showed him serving hot mint chai and small treats to people waiting in line outside his New York restaurant, Bungalow.

The clip, shared on the restaurant’s official Instagram page, shows Khanna, carrying out a tray of steaming chai, followed by staff members and his mother, who is seen welcoming diners.

The gesture drew strong reactions on social media, with many users applauding the chef’s hospitality during New York’s falling temperatures.

One commenter wrote that the moment was “much needed while waiting in this cold for his amazing food,” while another said, “We all should learn something from this man.” Several others praised the scene as “heartwarming” and described Khanna’s approach as an example of genuine warmth toward guests.

Bungalow, which opened in 2024 in the East Village, has quickly become one of the city’s most talked-about Indian restaurants. Known for interiors inspired by old Indian clubhouses, it blends pastel tones, carved woodwork and nostalgic décor.

The restaurant has earned a Bib Gourmand recognition from the Michelin Guide, adding to its growing popularity and long waiting lines.

Khanna, a James Beard Award nominee, was among the first Indian chefs in the United States to earn a Michelin star for his earlier New York restaurant, Junoon.
