The Government of Canada has begun testing digital visas, in an attempt to modernise immigration services and improve service delivery to the applicants.

The new initiative has been launched by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and is aimed at making  travel to Canada faster, safer and more convenient.

Kicked off as a pilot program to test the safety, accessibility, security and user friendliness of digital visas, the Canadian government has invited a group of Moroccan tourists, whose visas were already approved, to test the different aspects of the initiative.

The pilot program will also test compatibility with third parties such as airlines.

It will reduce the need to mail or submit a passport for a visa counterfoil, improving verification and security and they allow applicants to share only the information that’s needed.
