The Forbes 400 ranking of America's richest people for 2025 has recognized Indian-American entrepreneur Baiju Bhatt as one of the 10 youngest billionaires in the country.

At 40, Bhatt, co-founder of stock trading platform Robinhood, is the only person of Indian origin among the group of young billionaires, which also features Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg and Walmart heir Lukas Walton.

Forbes estimated Bhatt’s net worth at $6 billion, largely owing to his 6 percent ownership in Robinhood. The company, which went public during the pandemic-driven retail trading boom in 2021, has seen its stock price surge nearly 400 percent over the past year. This was fueled by increased crypto transactions, new offerings such as IRAs and high-yield savings accounts, and a record $3 billion in revenue in 2024.

Bhatt co-founded Robinhood with Vlad Tenev in 2013, launching the mobile app in 2015 with a focus on commission-free trading and user-centered design. He served as co-CEO until late 2020 before becoming chief creative officer, a role he stepped down from in 2024. Despite leaving day-to-day operations, he remains on Robinhood’s board.

In October 2024, Bhatt announced the launch of Aetherflux, a space-based solar energy company headquartered in San Carlos. The venture aims to build a satellite constellation to collect solar energy in space and transmit it to Earth via infrared lasers, with the goal of delivering power to remote or challenging regions. He also holds investment positions in other space-oriented ventures, including Reflect Orbit and Apex.

Born in Virginia to Gujarati immigrant parents, Bhatt grew up facing financial hardship after his father, a NASA scientist, had to abandon his doctoral studies due to kidney failure. He has recalled that his family could not afford trips back to India after 1997 due to medical costs.

Bhatt pursued higher education at Stanford University, earning a bachelor’s degree in physics and a master’s degree in mathematics in 2008. It was there that he met Vlad Tenev, with whom he would later co-found Robinhood.
