Australia has launched the National Innovation Visa, a new pathway that grants direct permanent residency to high-achieving global professionals — a change expected to draw strong interest from Indian applicants with proven talent.
The visa, introduced in December 2024, replaces the Global Talent Visa and is designed to bring in exceptional migrants who can help create jobs and drive productivity in key sectors of the Australian economy.
The program targets established and emerging leaders with high-calibre skills who can make significant contributions to the country’s future growth. Successful applicants receive permanent residency on arrival, access to public healthcare and education, and a pathway to citizenship. Family members are included without the need for employer sponsorship or a prearranged job.
The visa is open to researchers, entrepreneurs, innovative investors, athletes, and creatives. Eligibility is not points-based but depends on documented excellence. Applicants must submit an expression of interest, provide proof of achievements, secure a nominator of national standing in Australia, and pass a merit-based assessment.
Because the program is invite-only, candidates cannot apply directly unless shortlisted.
