Maryland Lt. Governor Aruna Miller will serve as the commencement speaker for the Class of 2026 at West Nottingham Academy during the school’s graduation ceremony on May 30, the academy announced.

In a statement, Miller said she was looking forward to joining “students, families, and educators in celebrating the Class of 2026” at the Cecil County-based institution.

Announcing the event, West Nottingham Academy described Miller as a nationally recognized leader in public service, infrastructure, education, and innovation.

“As the first woman of color and first immigrant elected to statewide office in Maryland, her journey reflects the values of perseverance, global leadership, and academic excellence that define the West Nottingham Academy experience,” the school said.

Born in India and raised in the United States, Miller previously served in the Maryland House of Delegates and worked as a civil engineer before becoming lieutenant governor. She has frequently focused on issues related to transportation, education, technology, and economic development during her public service career.

West Nottingham Academy said the commencement ceremony would give graduating students an opportunity to hear from “a transformative leader” whose work continues to shape education, transportation, and opportunity across Maryland and beyond.

Miller has also been invited to deliver other commencement addresses this year, including at Frederick Community College and Wor-Wic Community College.

Prince George’s Community College also announced Miller as its 2026 commencement speaker earlier this year.
