The Consulate General of India in Seattle will host an Indian Film Festival in Nebraska with a public screening of English Vinglish this week.

The events are scheduled at two university campuses — the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and Creighton University in Omaha.

According to the announcement, the festival will open at Creighton University on Dec.  5 at 4:30 p.m. The screening will take place at the Skutt Student Center, Mutual of Omaha Ballroom, 2600 California Street, Omaha.

A second screening is scheduled for Dec. 6, at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, beginning at 4 p.m.

The film festival is part of the consulate’s cultural outreach efforts aimed at showcasing Indian cinema to audiences across the U.S. Midwest. Over the past year, CGI Seattle has expanded its cultural programming in the region, organizing screenings and university-based events across states under its jurisdiction.

Earlier in 2025, the consulate held the first “Festival of Indian Cinema” at the University of Montana in Missoula. The three-day program featured English Vinglish, Zindagi Na Milega Dobara and Raksha Bandhan and drew more than 500 students from 33 schools.

The Montana edition also included participation from local civic leaders, including the Mayor of Helena, and featured cultural segments on Indian classical arts and India’s emerging digital public infrastructure initiatives.

English Vinglish, directed by Gauri Shinde and led by the late Sridevi, remains one of the most internationally recognized Indian films of the past decade.
