The Dr. Prem Reddy Family Foundation awarded $110,000 in academic scholarships on June 12 to 85 students from the High Desert medical college pursuing careers in health sciences. The ceremony took place in Victorville, California as part of the Foundation’s ongoing effort to support the next generation of healthcare professionals.
The recipients ranged in age from 16 to 54, including high school seniors, single parents returning to school, and adults changing careers. A record number of applications were submitted in 2025, signaling both financial need and a growing interest in healthcare work.
“This event was more than a celebration of achievement—it was a tribute to the passion and purpose it takes to pursue a calling in healthcare,” said Sunitha Reddy, executive director of the Foundation. “These scholars are the reason this Foundation exists.”
“You’ve chosen a path in healthcare, a path that demands knowledge, compassion, and resilience,” she added. “As you care for others, never forget that your journey is part of a greater legacy.”
Among the recipients was Tiffany Bogan, who recounted her difficult personal history. She was born with neonatal abstinence syndrome, placed in foster care, survived Hurricane Katrina, and faced personal loss tied to addiction.
“I’m not here because everything went right—I’m here because I never gave up,” Bogan said. “I’ve built this future from the ground up, and I plan to use it to serve others as a doctor, shaped by struggle and led by love.”
The event’s keynote address was delivered by Karyl James, chief nursing officer at Desert Valley Hospital. She spoke about resilience and purpose in the healthcare field.
“Your path is not just about the destination—it’s about the lives you touch, the lessons you learn, and the growth you experience along the way,” James said.
Founded in 1989 by Dr. Prem Reddy, the Foundation has awarded over $2 million in scholarships to date. It also supports public health education and community clinics.
Many of this year’s scholarship recipients expressed a commitment to return to the High Desert and serve in their local communities.
