IT services major Cognizant is attempting to set a Guinness World Record for the most participants in an online generative AI hackathon.
More than 250,000 employees have registered for its internal “Vibe Coding Week” initiative, a week-long global event that began on July 28 and aims to familiarize the company’s workforce with AI-driven programming tools.

The initiative is part of Cognizant’s ongoing investment in artificial intelligence and workplace innovation. Employees from departments including engineering, sales, marketing, and human resources are participating in coding exercises using generative AI platforms, the firm said.
“Technology has moved into the hands of people who don’t need deep digital skills to access it,” CEO Ravi Kumar S. said in a statement. He added that the event aims to reduce the divide between technical and non-technical roles by making AI tools accessible across functions.
To support employees with varying skill levels, Cognizant partnered with platforms such as GitHub Copilot, Gemini Code Assist, Windsurf, Cursor, and Lovable. Employees selected a platform of their choice at the time of registration.
An internal hub was developed in the lead-up to the event to streamline learning resources, tutorials, and project submissions. Vibe Coding Week includes workshops, prompt engineering guides, a project competition, and recognition for innovative submissions.
After the event, participants can continue collaborating through an internal community set up for ongoing AI development. The company reported that nearly 30 percent of its code in the second quarter of 2025 was generated using AI-assisted tools in collaboration with employees.
The company also runs Bluebolt, an employee innovation platform that has collected over five lakh ideas, of which more than 80,000 have been implemented in client projects. Separately, its global training programme Synapse aims to upskill one million people in AI skills by 2026.
Cognizant was founded in Chennai in 1994 as part of Dun & Bradstreet and is now headquartered in Teaneck, New Jersey.
