Cincinnati festival debuts musical tribute to Indian Americans
The 12-minute orchestral work combines Indian ragas and Western classical traditions to depict a community’s journey.

The premiere of “The Indian American Soundtrack” at the 2026 Summermusik Festival in Cincinnati brought together prominent Indian American community, business and civic leaders to celebrate the community’s experience through music and visual storytelling.
Deputy Consul General Vishal Harsh of the Consulate General of India, New York, attended the premiere, which was also joined by Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval, Procter & Gamble Chairman and CEO Shailesh Jejurikar, and Indiaspora Founder and Chairman M.R. Rangaswami, along with other business and community leaders, the Consulate General of India, New York, posted on X.

“The Indian American Soundtrack” is a 12-minute orchestral tone poem composed by Cincinnati-based musician Dr. Kanniks Kannikeswaran. The piece blends Indian ragas with Western classical orchestral traditions to trace the historical journey of the Indian American community.

The event also recognised Dr. Kannikeswaran for his creative contribution in conceptualizing and presenting the musical production, which seeks to portray the Indian-American experience through a unique combination of music and visuals.
