Brendan Talwar, a postdoctoral scholar at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California San Diego, has won Netflix’s marine competition series ‘All the Sharks’ alongside teammate Chris Malinowski from the Ocean First Institute.

Talwar told UC San Diego the six-episode series, filmed across locations including the Maldives, the Galápagos Islands, The Bahamas, South Africa, Japan, and Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, awarded points for photographing sharks in the wild, with rarer species worth more. The pair, known as “Shark Docs”, secured the $50,000 prize for their chosen nonprofits, Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF) and Ocean First Institute.
