The Bihar Jharkhand Association of Midwest (BJUS) hosted its Diwali Deepotsav 2025 on Nov. 15, drawing more than 200 community members for an evening centered on cultural tradition, shared identity, and festive celebration.
The program featured a blend of performances, ceremonial activities, and community outreach.

The event opened with the U.S. and Indian national anthems performed by elementary students under the guidance of Arti Manchanda, followed by cultural presentations from children and adults and a diya-lighting ceremony led by the BJUS core team. It was followed by lamp lighting by chief guest K.D. Thokchom, Deputy Consul General of India.

Guests were served traditional Diwali foods, and music from a DJ kept the gathering lively throughout the evening. A new addition to this year’s celebration included informational and business booths.
State Bank of India representatives provided details on banking services and account options. Eye Level Naperville introduced visitors to its academic enrichment programs, and attorney Sagar Thakkar discussed wills and trusts, also sponsoring a raffle prize.
BJUS president Shikha Kumari thanked attendees for their support, saying, “Today’s Diwali celebration reflects the strength of our community and the richness of our shared cultural roots. It is deeply uplifting to see families and friends come together to honor our traditions with such pride and unity.”
She also reviewed the accomplishments of the 2024–2026 leadership team as it marked its first anniversary, citing initiatives such as cricket tournaments, volunteer efforts at ‘Feed My Starving Children,’ pickleball and badminton events, participation in Independence Day celebrations, representation at the ‘National India Hub Parade,’ CPR training sessions, and co-sponsorship of ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas’ alongside other state associations.
A clothing drive was also organized by BJUS / Courtesy: Artistic Lens 360BJUS said it remains focused on cultural exchange and community programs that celebrate the heritage of Bihar and Jharkhand.
